axle material? it looks Copper (Cu)? i’m madly confused, trying to transfer temp via the axle?

Copper is really soft metal I highly highly doubt that the axle is made of copper :smiley: Or maybe it just plated but still doesn’t really make sense :slight_smile: So I will keep with my idea its rusted on top side next spherical bearing there is nut which looks kinda same :slight_smile:

I bet it’s a copper pipe cut down as a sleeve over the axle. For temp transfer like you said(keep the bearings cooler?)

My guess is he will cover the copper in everbrite or acylic to prevent a patina. And will likely polish it before he’s done.

Either that or it’s flamed titanium past the :rainbow:

Axle is 4130 chromolyCopper sleeve for the temp bushing mock-up using 150mm bushing hardware. The machined parts look like this but with a longer profile. Will post a proper pic tonight after the day job.

Wonder if Beryllium Copper would be a good choice as a sleeve

Hong Kong via eBay… Now that their in hand the quality and construction is very good. I have high hopes for these when we hit the motorcycle Dyno.

Can I ask what thickness are your motor mounts? I presume some fancy steel plate, but still looks thin for 12kW :open_mouth:

Knowing the Stooge and his background in motorsport… I’d guess it is some kind of Alloyed Steel… I know his monocoque box chassis, battery/esc enclosure is.

Motor Plates and Axel’s are 4130 chromoly steel. Motors will be boxed in. It’s a very strong and lightweight mounting configuration… Same basic setup as the raceboard with some refinements and narrowed up.

and yet I am still interested in what thickness is the plate the motors are currently attached to, because it looks to me like its tops 2mm thicc.

That is some pretty dope steel alloy

chromoly steel is hardest steel u will get. u need really good carbide drill bit to work with. don’t think it will be a problem as long as it doesn’t oscillate
