Mounting your Enclosure

Yours are coarse thread. These are a fine thread

What size bit does it say to use.

Did you insert these with the slot exposed (for use with an insert tool like it is designed for)?

Or

Did you insert slot side first thinking its a self tapping insert?

They look very similar in design and cause lots of confusion.

Tiny slot that doesn’t go into threads = for removal tool

Large slot that goes through threads = self tapping

I inserted them as the tutorial explained, slot side down for a cleaner finish

I believe these are meant to be installed with the slot up because you would use the tool for it.

But it didn’t come with a tool

Yeah they sell the tool in a kit. The ones you bought are extra pieces compatible with the tool. No big deal. Would’ve made removal way easier though

One’s i got are slot side up as well. The tool is a separate bit. Just like when you buy screws or nails they don’t come with a screwdriver or a hammer

You don’t need the tool just put a nut on a cap socket screw and use that to install them. The nut will definitely make it easier

this… i used the flat head bit on my drill…slowly…on the first one and it eventually snapped the side of partially… still useable… then went back to a screw and nut

This is what I did

You can also counter sink slightly

Did that as well  I really think my deck is just brittle

Man. I tried loctite and super glue to get bolts in to pull these inserts out with no luck. Any other recommendations welcome IMG_20190321_011047

Damn! Epoxy will get it. This is mad frustrating. I can’t imagine how you feel lol

Possibly a drill bit for removing bolts/screws where the head rips off. They have em cheap at harbor freight

This is last resort yeah

Im actually mounting a case as we.speak… Using a slightly different insert… But… I found a 5/16 bit easier to get the insert in… The 1/4 im forcing.it.to go an it.wont easily… The other inserts (which i used on my other deck) have way better digging grip which may have attributed to splitting holes… 0321191149_HDR

5/16 ended up being too big for my inserts. I wonder if I could just epoxy them in? Hmm
