Evolve Skateboards - New Board - GT Carbon!

@bbq870 @HH1

So even if the battery the GT uses lasts 300 full battery cycles wouldn’t that equate to thousands of miles considering the range you’re supposed to get out of it on a full charge? 30(miles on a charge) * 300 (full charges) = ~9000 miles? Don’t think most people including myself would rack that many miles that quickly

@magnetvox yes there are better speakers i had to watch it in multiple small sessions so i could actually listen to what he was saying.

@Mr_Mahal it is a solid point that there is a lot of liles in this batterys but it pisses me always a bit of when they say you have thousand charge cycles you will never brake it when they actually now that is wrong maybe i am pedant about this

Lol I would agree…prob 30miles the first day you get it but using the 30miles range every day? That would be a long commute… 5-10 here and there…sometimes it’s fully charged when you grab it…sometimes it isn’t …

You can have healthy useable miles from the battery for a long time.

I wouldn’t use that much everyday, maybe about 22-25. So it should last a long time. What’s the safe % you should charge a battery to? Would it matter if I’m going to use it everyday?

@HH1 true, maybe they figure since it’ll last so long even with 300-500 cycles that it makes you feel better if you hear 1000 lol

I watched it about a year ago

I forget most of it and can’t do it again.

There are different chemistries though and they have very different life cycle ability Lifepo4 the longest Li-ion pretty good Lipo not so good

Think evolve is still using lipo. Cheap. Not as safe ( a lot of evolve have caught fire and I wonder what percentage of them compared to the infamous hover boards)

It would be good to know what the bms is shutting off the charge and the discharge at as it would tell you a lot about how long the batteries will last. Especially with such a big pack you won’t need to squeeze every ah out and you could stay in the nice comfort zone of 3.6 to 3.10 or even a narrower spectrum. Maybe you could alter it. Last like 3x as long as 3.3 to 4.2 which is commonly done

@mr_mahal if I remerber it right the guy in the video said that the batteries would last a lot longer if you do not drain them under 10% and do not charge them over 80% but I have heard somewhere in this forum that you want to charge your batteries once in a while to full charge because all the balancing of the bms happens at the end of the charge cycle so that your batteries stay in balance charge them once in a while to 100% if you use your board daily you are likely to get more charge cycles out of this battery since these batterys do age

I’m sure there an evolve guide and recommend levels as to when to charge it…

For example…let’s say it’s fully charged…and let say ur nephew or niece tried it out…really quick…used it for like ten minutes…I wouldn’t stick it back on the charger.

Also, even after a hard ride on the board and it needs to be charged…wait a little for the battery to recover and cool down…I give it 15-30 mins before I put on for charge…volt levels will level out from the voltage sag.

Who has reported this??? Was there ever a response from evolve about it? I would think with carbon fiber and kevlar puncturing wouldn’t happen ever, but vibrations possibly? or is this people fucking with their battery with the lid off? Random? lol I don’t understand how unless they are using the same batteries as the hoverboards

Hover board was using li-ion I think but there’s different chemistries of that and also some brands had manufacturing problems and worse quality control likely and that could’ve been the result. I never found out why the hover boards were going up The evolve had a couple go up that people posted on es. People who wrote about it and knew said the board’s design was possibly to blame as it should’ve had thinner wires I think and that would’ve acted as a fuse , but then maybe more resistance in normal operation. I don’t know. I think evolve was really good about getting boards to people who burnt up.

I’m just wondering under what circumstances did it happen…while riding, while charging, etc because I don’t want my home to burn down lol. I’d ask if you think its been fixed with this one but I’m guessing its something you’d have to see “under the lid”

All helpful tips mate to help extend the life of your battery…

Gotta find that balance between what you should do and what you wanna do…

You’re biggest enemy is over discharging…you can’t over charge…bms is suppose to do that…the balancing … That happens the moment you plug it in…as you get closer to full charge the amps going in the battery slow to trickle …then stops

@Hummie that would be real interesting to know it these boards use the full capacity or like electric cars only a certain amount of it so they can withstand more charging cycles. but to be honest with this range I do think they are using the battery’s whole potential

@Michaelinvegas you have the word unplug in there so does it happen when zou unplug it or does it happen as I understand it at the end of the charging when the last bit of charge is “trickeling” in there

Edited sorry…

The bms should be set to trickle at a specific Voltage ideally… So even if full charged and you unplug it…then plug it in again…nothing much is gonna happen…the bms should know to cut it off

I imagine the bms monitors the max discharge and the charge max. If it balances at full charge, which most do I think, then it would maybe be good to full charge but regardless every cell would be monitored so if u never fully charge I don’t think it would decrease your cycles really

I guess in the end I will be a guinea pig and just use the thing like I intended. Use, charge to full, use, charge again lol…the only tip I think that I can follow is not to let them discharge to 10% or below (if I can help it)

U won’t have any issues…just don’t go on vacation for a week with the board left on and you’ll be solid…

Keep the rules you set to charge simple…that way you worry less…and enjoy more👍🏻

Prove it !!! because I never heard such a thing !!! bring up facts!!! And for mr hamal they only thing I heard about evolve s battery is that when you ride your board at 10c > you losses performance!!! And that is normal !!! Coold and battery not best mix , you get less distance and speed .I own the evolve bamboo for more than a year and I never had any issue with it I even ride it At -10 in indoor garage and no problem just less performance that all !!! This a complete joke Compared the evolve to hover board !!! Lmao :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:
