it attracts dogs & rodents from miles away…be weary of that.

First, the title of the video makes me laugh really hard :joy: And on top of that, it’s uncensored unsensored drama!

I think I have to shoot a reply video showing sensored mulch startups

I guess when your wheels spin like in the video they suck a lot of ampere! Once during riding my wheels lost traction in deep wet mud and spinned like yours, The battery discharge raised from smooth 35A to about 80-90A within this time.

Would love to ride in this skate park and the mulch right now

Oh, no that’s bad. I’ve tried with and without traction control, felt no difference but maybe I wasn’t in the proper environment for really testing it. But I never had wheelspins like you, only this one time in mud.

But let’s talk about first world sensored problems, yes, even they are existing in hybrid bldc mode

This video reminds me of my first impression of the first version of my build after spending a lot of money and time. I thought: What is this? Really great when riding but I’m afraid to stop because I can’t start anymore. Sensored motors in FOC run like a dream, but maybe to smooth for people who like raw power. I have a lot of power but it’s still smooth. One day I’ll have a look about change settings like acceleration curve or ramping time but for now it feels good.

Hahahaha glad I managed to give you a laugh!! I’d love to see the reply vid!

I’ll get the BT module added and see what’s really going on in there - I reckon you’re right. Maybe they’re just squeeling because they’re in pain!

Ditto dude - it’s lonely here in SA with noone to ride with! The skate park wasn’t really big enough for mountainboards but still good fun. I’m actually looking to head over to the Shed skatepark in melbourne in the next couple of months as I’ve connected with Dylan Warren (Mountainboard God for MBS) and he’s keen to feel the power of one of these things! I can’t wait to see what he can do on my board! I’m totally gonna sort out all the problms I have before I fly a board out there and the bloody thing blows up or kills him! I’ll be sure to film it too - that skatepark has a foam pit and everything!

That’s completely how my board behaves! Bloody embarrasing! I gotta head over to sensored asap.

Gentlemen, I think the word you might be looking for is spaded O.o…

Hey guys, I’m running quite conservative 100A / 100A settings on my vesc 4.11 right now, after I burned a motor in summer on 120A / 120A.

This was just a quick test with blocked motor:

WOW - that’s insane! So what’s your upgrade to make the 4.11 perform like that? Steriods? Viagra?!! :face_with_raised_eyebrow::sweat_smile: If you can make that VESC perform like that then what’s the advantage of higher spec VESCS? Are you running FOC too? I need to revisit some of your old posts I think! I’ve read them so many times but everytime I do they seem to make more sense

We need a @duffman and @nowind collaboration thread on how to build the most insane eMTB!

Just came back from a wicked ride session.

@DanSkates I recorded videos of startups on any terrains including mulch which will make you cry and order sensored motors  I have so much material that I have to edit it (quick and dirty), was on bmx-track, did slides (at least tried)… and captured some funny fails including standing on the ground with one sock only.

Thank you so much for the hint with the wrong position of heel straps. This time I used them on a higher position and quite loose, was much much better and I enjoyed it.

@Duffman also the jumping instead of falling works well :+1: I lost one half heel strap but found it again. My ride was over after 17km and my second puncture within 3 rides. Now I need to buy more bicycle repair kits.

EDIT: bought more than that  I’m tired of punctures, will try some new stuff. Did also some research about kevlar stripes which would be good between tube and tyre but mostly I find kevlar for fire artists, don’t think it’s cut resistant.

Go sensored or go home!!!

@rich Glad to hear that you start enjoying your heelstraps. Give them a few more rides and you can’t ride without them anymore.

@DanSkates I’m running BLDC to get the most out of my VESCs and I avoid running FOC on 4.x hardware… But as you are already running FOC you could also switch to an AS5047 setup, which is technically even better than hall sensors and cheaper as you can keep your motors. The problem in your case is that you would have to reconfigure your VESCs…

When you fix the CANBUS you can setup the VESC with the broken USB via CAN. And i had problems with unsensored motors at startup as well when they make this high frequency sound. What helped in my case was to raise the swithing frequency to 30 kHz (which i do at all my motors). And i also increased the Observer Gain At Minimum Duty which helped the most in my case. But every motor is different.

Ooooohhh yeah I remember when @nowind documented doing this with your support! I’ll do some research on past builds to see if I can figure this out - great idea - I totally forgot about this.

I’ll get these sorted - there’s a couple of local shops that I’m sure could fix this if - if not I’ll buy a hot air station and do it myself. It’s long overdue!

Thanks @Ackmaniac - once the VESCs are configureable again I’ll test these tweaks too! amazing that they fixed the squeeling motors! Thanks for jumping in here too - your support is always appreciated.

@rich - can’t wait to see the videos dude!!! Sorry you keep getting punctures - it appears my achilles heel is my motors and yours is your tyres. Thorns are like you kryptonite!!!

Finally I managed to upload at least one video, there are some problems with audio but I can’t open the project anymore, that must be fate. Need to fix the problems before I edit the rest. @DanSkates I didn’t forget the reply video, coming soon!

Duuuuuude! That’s such a sick edit - i loved it!! The baby music with the bikes had me pissing myself!! And the section with your missing heelstrap - very funny dude! Can’t say enough good things about this. Also, sweet riding dude! Sitting at my desk at work deperate to get out to the BMX park now. Can’t wait to ride this easter weekend!

Looking forward to the next video to man - looks fun!

Hehe, glad you like it! The editing was not really planned before, it just happened. But now I have some funny ideas for a different BMX track when I find some time.

:joy: that was hella funny with the music change with the bikes! Nice vid :+1: I gotta get some pads and start hitting the bike tracks. Looks like a blast!

Does that mean you don’t wear any pads right now? I really like my ellbow and forearm protectors, they saved me from some nasty cuts when falling in the BMX track from video above.

Stones are evil! When I was a kid I was falling with my BMX without protectors, you could see my kneecap and gravel everywhere underneath the skin on different spots. Well, after surgery it took some weeks to recover. I prefer protectors more than hospitals these days.

After some detailed research of spots in my hometown I found some awesome places, the second one is not my league yet but maybe one day. But they have a trial ramp with foam blocks, I want to try that :sunglasses:

I’ve just been wearing a fullface and wrist guards.

Wow! So these spots are local? Sick! I’d love to try the jump with the soft landing.

Dan with your motor/battery max the same as your battery voltage drops your board will feel as though it is dying…

I was talking to Decky about it in this thread over here. Essentially setting a higher motor amps will help compensate the above. Although using Ack’s watt control or similar is the only way to get a linear delivery.

Hi Ack, I’ve read a few times to increase switching frequency of brushless motors, now my understanding of controllers and motors is limited… so Is a side effect of increased switching frequency more losses (heat) in the controller at higher rpm and less ripple voltage at low rpm?
