RAPTOR 2 | Most Powerful Direct Drive Electric Skateboard | Kickstarter

I’m not sure if all kickstarter people are following this thread. But I think it would be a good thing to remind them or post more details on kickstarter.

Btw… just did the upgrade as well #only-live-once!

DESIGN UPDATE

I have been talking about / thinking about this new deck shape way too much over the last week, I also showed it on my live facebook feeds… to be honest, can’t get it out of my head. For simplicity sakes it would have been easier to stick with a very straight deck, but I’m glad i didnt.

I really like this deck shape a lot! It has a very subtle rocker & micro drops, It feels very reassuring underfoot and feels like I have a better connection with the board. I can see this being a big advantage at higher speeds when braking & accelerating lots. You will feel more “locked-in”, especially if there’s some moisture around, as you will be able to better secure your foot above the front trucks to form a solid base and prevent the foot from slipping forward.

If you do tend to ride in a tuck position the rear micro drop at this wheelbase length is also well positioned for locking down the rear foot. I normally wouldn’t use this position for my rear foot (I’m originally a street/trick deck skater so always have my rear foot on the kick) but now it’s there I might bring my back foot forward more often. I think when cruising at slower speeds I’ll be more inclined to relax & bring my foot forward into this small pocket as it feels very comfortable and I get the sense that even though with a more narrow stance I will still feel well grounded & in control.

Due to the rocker of this deck mold I have added two extra maple layers & cut a deeper battery case section, the extra thickness has allowed me to modify the aluminum handles. I have been able to create a new design that is more seamless with the top of the deck. Personally, I don’t move around too much top side but several people have said the original handle design may have been an issue for foot placement. I have taken that feedback on board & with this new design the entire top side is open & free for any foot position…

CHANGES

  • new deck mold / concave features (length, width wheelbase all the same as before)
  • new handle design

NOTES

  • The extra maple layers do add some weight, but we are also cutting deeper into the layers.
  • I have also increased the wheel cutouts to remove more material & reduce weight further.
  • Overall the weight is still similar to a normal 9ply longboard deck.

if the code is made opensource I’m sure someone might be willing to make an iOS port (i’d definitely want to do this myself)

lol deck design is so personal to each ones tastes so never going to solve optimally for all people. I personally like micro-drops on my current builds ALOT, so great. I also prefer a really slim unobtrusive handle design (maybe removeable, but with torx or secure mount for those wanting to use for locking down). so great.

@onloop Just bought my booster pack, can’t wait to get my hands on this board!

Maybe move this urging to other @Ackmaniac threads lol.

Really would be great to see VESC Monitor on IOS. I have dual vesc running BLE chips from Metr @rpasichnyk and VESC Connect @evoheyax in parallel simultaneously with no issues, both on IOS apps. Not looking to switch over to Android just for this, or purchase cheap Android gear separate device just for this.

This stuff has to converge or interoperate at some point to be truly useful.

I would actually buy a tiny 100 eur (105 usd) android device for this purpose only. But I agree… i’ll see if I can get a hold of @Ackmaniac to see if he is willing to open source.

so the battery is now more inside the deck? thats great  and is this deck for carving too?

agreed, we need this for IOS, maybe we can table this with Jason on his next facebook live coming up in a few hours? Aren’t most people on IOS these days?

I paid… Lets do this. @onloop You should be advertising the bluetooth hardware too. Thats sweet.

Also, Your email went to my “promotions” folder on gmail (I didn’t see it). If you’re sending to just buyers, make it look like more of a transactional email (subject like: “Your enertion boards order - Action required”) you will get much better opens. Idea: Give them 2 actions to take: 1. order, 2. reply to the email saying you are not going to order and why.

Also, make the content look less an upsell and more like a personal email from yourself. Talk about how this is all or nothing and you need their help… etc.

P.S. I may do marketing, mostly digital, for a living. Take my advise for what you think its worth.

@Cam, “need” might be a little strong. Check out android vs IOS market share: http://www.idc.com/promo/smartphone-market-share/os

From a business standpoint android market is bigger. From his target market standpoint (his “old” market was DIY customer), I’m guessing android is much larger than IOS.

I’m not saying this to be argumentative, just saying that it may not be high on his priorities and it would makes sense for it not to be… especially based on everything else that needs to get done.

On one of his vlogs last year on youtube, they were using what appears to be the same app on an iPhone 6. That iPhone could be Jail broken though.

Hi Jason, could you please explain how it’ll be possible to transfer the hardware to another deck if you have a cutout for the battery on the raptor deck? This was an important feature for me since I know I’ll eventually want to take it apart and mess with it (like all the other toys in the drawer ) Cheers Fabian

Done deal @onloop. Not a bad deal for a 20% gain.

@that0n3guy - fair enough on the IOS android split world wide, but in North America the split split is a very different story (see link below). Jason @onloop , would have a better sense of his regional market opportunity, but I am willing to guess North America is a disproportionately large portion of his consumer base?

I would also imagine this would likely be low involvement exercise for Jason that could run in parallel to the other product development initiatives that would be the theoretical bottleneck in meeting production completion timelines.

Not sure what the costs would be, but could be an easy win that might be worth exploring to booster future sales.

PS- I may do business managment, mostly “Consumer packaged Goods” for a living…for what it’s worh

Ha, love it.

I agree going from android to ios would probably be easy, depending on how the first one was built. Did he even make the first one? I thought it was opensource someone else and he kinda took it and made it better… I might be way off.

I thnk you are right, which is why I figured it would likely be low involvement for Jason… we should be getting a live update in a few hours… @onloop get your ass out of bed!

Order it…
