Choosing the right motor kv for the VESC

10/4 man just excited about my build…

@chaka I have 10s LiPo batteries, 245kv motor and TorqueBoards VESC… i calculated the ERPM: 63455. Is the value too high, or do you still consider it safe?

limit your erpm in the bldc tool to 60.000 and you´re good to go

Also that is you no load max. With weight on the board and a belt you’ll never hit that ERPM. Just be carful bench testing cause you can reach that ERPM and burn out the vesc so, the 60000 limit is still a good idea.

Hello everyone

If i use dual turnigy sk3 260kv motors and dual vesc. 10 x 4.2 = 42v 42v x 260kv = 10,920 RPM 10,920 RPM x7 = 76,440 ERPM You guys would advise that this is not suitable right.

So do you think this will work. dual torqueboards 190kv motors at 12s or 10s? 10 x 4.2 = 42v 42v x 190kv = 7980 rpm 7980 x 7 =55860 erpm

12 x 4.2 = 50.4v 50.4 x 190kv = 9576 rpm 9576 x 7 = 67032 erpm

Would the 190kv at 12s be okay as its going over 60000?

It will be fine as long as you set the ERPM limit in the VESC settings to 60,000.

what would happen if i didnt set it to 60000, would the vesc blow and what would make it blow?

Yes it would blow the VESC. Going over 60k ERPMs is what makes it blow. If you want to know exactly what happens I’d suggest checking out the vedder forums. A quick Google search should get you there.

I will, thank you!

Does the 60k erpm apply to 7 pole motors only?

What if I used a 4 pole motor? (not necessarily on an esk8)

we’re almost all using 14 magnets which gives us 7 switches for a full rotation. you still have the same erpm limit and would do the same math to figure your erpm.

So how is this working? 2200kv x 25.2v x 4 poles = 195360erpm?

maybe I’m wrong but I think it’s voltage x kv x half your poles so 7 for most of us. or you could limit the max erpm with the bldc tool on your pc

2200kv x 25.2 x 2 = 110880 eRPM 2200kv x 25.2 = 55440 RPM

Hello Hummie, I saw that you probably have the same VESC that me, and I have some questions about it, coulsd you help me on it ?

We likely all have similar vescs and I’m no expert but if u have question…

I sent you an mail

quick question, what would work the best in terms of balance between top speed, tourqe and battery efficiency if I run 8s3p 245kv or 213kv both turnigy sk3 63xx motors

Is it possible to datalog ERPM via HM-10 bluetooth device?

Most do that I’m aware of. Any of the apps that are getting a speed from the VESC itself (ie. that isn’t based on the GPS of the mobile device) use ERPM, the motor pole count, the gear ratio, and the wheel size to calculate it.
