[WIKI] A beginner guide to DIY an ESK8

Thanks so much! Any specific type of aluminum (like grade or finish)?

The ones I sell hereare very good

Hello Guys, Unfortunately, Inboard technology gave me a board for $1500 that worked for only 2 months and to fix it they need me to pay another $500 + shipping cost. So, I need your help in choosing some parts for my e-skateboard while keep in mind that i’m outside the USA.

I have a battery with the below specifications and I need to understand how to choose a ESC and back truck compatible with that battery;

  • Lithium-lon Battery
  • Voltage: 43.2V nominal 49.2V peak
  • Capacity: 97Wh 2.25Ah

Advanced Thanks.

For the esc it depends on your budget and how you will use your board . A good esc is called a vesc and you can change the settings however there is a diy version but there is no settings options. For the motors you will first have to decide between a hub motor which is less hassle to install with less maintenance or a belt drive which has a better performance.

What does everyone use to build a li-ion pack? I don’t want to layer 5 strips and I am trying to get a pack that can supply over 60 Amps with losing most of its power by heat!

I know to spotweld nickel and all but from what I know I would need at least 5 or 6, what can I put on top of just 1 to help carry the amperage?

@Linny I heard you could give me some insight /

Ah, i’m no battery builder however. Perhaps you can take a look at this thread and see how people do their packs.

Also @Linny my esc that I used overheated super quick after about 2 miles, would installing some micro fans help stop it from over heating?

How hot did it get? An aluminum heatsink or fans will definitely help. I’d go for the heatsink.

The heat sink came already on it, it’s pretty thick to

@Linny it got so hot that I couldn’t hold it, over 120 °F, then it just shut off, it turns back on after it cools, did I mention that it melted through the duct tape I used to protect my batteries :joy:

This is the exact esc I have https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F322688416729

Ah, these are notorious for having issues.

I’d get a flipsky 4.12 VESC minimum. I run these on a single drive and it gets up to 50 deg c which is normal, but will not cutout.

Could you provide I link for a cheap one? I am kinda on a budget

The Flipsky one is a budget haha.

Currently on sale now for 60 US. Anything lower than that will be the ESC that you are using now.

Awesome thanks!

I want to build a skateboard. But it seems a little difficult.

I want to buy the dual FSESC4.20 but I don’t know which controller is compatible with it. Do I need to buy a receiver that plugs into this esc and then buy the controller with that?
