The reason for your topspeed is the 8S Battery. But you can modify your battery’s easily to a 12S with 6Ah. So you would get 50% more speed. But you should set the max ERPM in the motor settings to 60000 if you have 190kv motors or higher. You will not reach those ERPM’s on the street but on the bench. And you should switch off the “Limit ERPM with negative torque” to be safe. Because if you reach those speeds on the street you do not want to start braking. The VESC should simply don’t give any power anymore.

Thanks, and great info. I will probably rewire my batteries in the future, but for now 22mph is fast enough!! :checkered_flag:

you’re in TX? where at? we should ride

Fort Worth, but I’m out of town A LOT. Where are you?

McKinney

That’s not too bad, if I’m out that way I’ll hit you up. :sunglasses:

Even if not, we can meet in-between. I know a few other guys in the Dallas area that I could contact for a group ride.

I have finally figured out the sensor wires from the motors, and thanks to @Ackmaniac’s new update to the BLDC tool, I have set up FOC mode with sensors with the no-miss tool tips. Things are coming together for this hobby!!

Gotta go for a test drive!!

Aaaaaand… SUCCESS! Man that’s smooth. And super quiet!

Well… she snapped in two!

Gonna have to transfer the guts to a new deck.

How did that happen?

Welly its a really cheap deck to begin with. I expected it at some point. The weak point was at the holes for the truck mounts. There are small cracks along the length of the deck around both the front and back mounting points.

It happened at very slow speed though, just a walk off when I heard the motor mounts start to scrape. I thought i had tun something over and it was dragging. There are a few potholes / pavement cracks that I have to hit on my way to work. I’m sure this was the cause of the stress that cracked it.

It didn’t help any that the deck was a drop through mount. That hole is definitely a stress riser.

Well your replacement (arbor highground) is an awesome choice. I have one with dual hubs and I love it.

THE REBUILD
She gave all she could. Time to get a new deck.

Strip her clothes off!!

NSFW Guts Exposed!

Lined up the old box for some new recessed screw holes with brass inserts.

That’ll do just fine!!

I got really into the weatherseal. That was a PITA. Forgot I was taking pictures of this re-do. I put a coat of paste wax on the exposed bottom and the wheel wells. Hoping this will repel whatever water might get splashed.

All Done!

Check out that W concave!

Charger Attached for the next ride!

I was sooo worried the 97 ABECs would bite. Didn’t have a problem. I left the risers on because of the motor mount clearance. NO BITES on the test run! Back in business!!

i saw a lot of types and sizes on ebay but i don’t know which one to choose

thanks

Well I purchased them when I only knew the depth of my deck in inches and was really guessing, even thought they turned out perfect.
They are 1/2" 8-32 socket head cap screws - and 1/4" deep inserts.
Measured, the screws are about M4s approx 12mm and the matching inserts are approx 9mm deep.

Just get inserts that are less than the depth of your deck. I would think M5s would be better, I had to use a small rubber/metal washer on the top to keep them from pulling through.

Also a TIP – Cut a screw as close to the exact length of the insert. After drilling holes to depth (just barely deeper than the inserts) put the screw in the insert and screw them into the board with that. DONT use the slot on the top, It’ll snap in half. Then just back out the screw and use it for the next one.

Whoa. Was about to get this deck because I also have 97mm wheels was scared of wheel bite. But if you say its all good I might just pick it up then.

Just some info, in case it matters…
I just cruise, no hard carving. There is a spacer for the motor clearance. However i have 44 deg calibers. But i couldn’t get them to touch standing still and trying hard. Those wheel wells are the key I think.
