They are really cool. I guess you can’t charge your batteries too quickly because ppl have told me they will drift.

I have always trusted Meanwell

because of maybe what youre calling drift, with fluctuations of current flowing off and on, when it’s set to too high a voltage for the pack, that is what makes the one with the knob above rock to me. These things are the most un-user friendly electronics sold and every one I got including meanwell came in a bare box with no instructions and no plug or wires for the needed 3 prong plug. You have to salvage one off a microwave or something. the thing is a puzzle and the final figuring for me was how turning the tiny screw pot was the voltage adjustment, and the sound it made whining on and off meant it was set too high a voltage for a dead pack, but it would charge very slowly still, whining slower as it brought the pack up, but better to just lower the set voltage. But I do have one that I don’t have to adjust ever, its a higher wattage I forget what now.
I haven’t got the linked one with the led and knob even running yet but wondering if the led voltage screen show the pack voltage as it climbs similar to my wired in wattmeter. if so thing does it all 55 bucks. Or what doesn’t it do? I don’t want CC I want as much current as I can get and charge faster and within the cell’s specs still. that looks exactly like the one for my x-carve. Minus the golden knob. Mine’s only rated for 24v though. Or possibly its preset for that and could go higher.

You might be right… I have the $37 60V 5A one off of Amazon linked on this thread. It has the plastic knob. If I push and turn it… it sometimes changes the voltage. I say sometimes because I turn it a few times and it doesn’t work consistently.

I made it to perfectly fit the 48v 3amp power supply from amazon that was mentioned above. It also perfectly fits the 5 amp controller, and 4 outputs. It clicks and screws together and fits nicely on a desk as a battery charger or lab power supply.

As I recall, there is a difference between power supply and battery charger. Power supply only provide constant voltage while battery charger provide range of voltages depending on the battery voltage. Say if you have 48v battery, you need to charge with 50v and battery charger does this automatically for you. Currently I am not sure my self why it’s recommended to use battery charger instead of psu and I do hope someone could explained it well.

It’s all about cc/ cv. Power supply won’t cut off and will over charge. Kaboom fire . A charger will trickle it’s power as it nears the end voltage of being fully charged and will then cut off. No kaboom fire. What’s nice about a drok controller is you get to set the end cutoff voltage to whatever you want and add much more cycle life’s to your cells by stopping at 98% instead of 100% full charge.

pcu get a bad rap that’s unwarranted and it wont blow up your battery. the big differences are it isn’t a current limiting and just a constant voltage and relies fully on ohm’s law to determine the current that will flow to the battery. that’s almost never a problem unless its a very high amp pcu capable of putting out more than your batty can handle. I’d rather charge at 8 or 12 amps anyway and within the specs of the cells I use. Lipo and even other high discharge lithium chemistry have a high max charge rate you shouldn’t go over but it’s almost always within what the pcu would do anyway. the other main feature of a charger which a pcu doesn’t have is it will shut off when it gets close to full charge and with a pcu there’s just a small current flowing continually as it gets close to the set voltage and it never gets there (the charger never gets there either but just shuts off when close). this isn’t a problem unless the trickling is happening at full full charge and that’s just because the battery is being held at it’s peak where it does the most damage and not anything else. If you set your pcu to 4.1 volts and have the battery sit on that all day the battery will be around 4.095 all day and that’s fine. there could be other safety features on a charger but these are the main differences between a pcu and a charger.

Looks like they have some new stuff, a 80v 5a buck (step down). But need like a 95v psu to take advantage?

And (exciting maybe) a buck/boost version of the 50v 5a. Which would let us use like a 48v psu for everything, maybe. 24v would work but probably heat up something fierce.

And, there’s some big sale in a few days.

I just verified the DROK regulator on this setup has an advertised voltage of 6V but it will let you set a voltage less than this, I just confirmed with a multi-meter. I dont imagine this is too efficient.

Thanks for the links…i think i’m gonna buy the DPH5005. Gonna need a charge for 12S and this looks awesome as i can use a cheaper 48V psu like you suggested.
