You can use an an infinite amount of milliamp hours, you just have to stay under 12s. You could use a 12s12p pack for all you want. Of course you would then have to bench press your board, and squeeze all of you batteries under you deck. I would recommend doing 10s3p pack for a vesc. You connect them using an xt60 plug, or equivalent connector. You do not need a fuse, you just need to do an xt90 anti spark loop key. Search xt90 on the forum and lots will come up
