Is there a big difference in practice between 24mph and 35mph?

I think the biggest difference is the option to bail and land on your feet. It’s possible to just step off and run out at 20mph for me, but that option goes away by 25mph. I’ve fallen at 20+ and it didn’t suck too bad on account of all my protective gear. I take a lot of risks, but not wearing a full face helmet and body armor over 25 is like asking for trouble. There ain’t nothin’ steezy about landing in a burn center from all those abrasions. I’ve been up over thirty and it’s super cool, but riding to the limit like that all the time basically guarantees a fall at those speeds.
