HW6.4 based ESC - ESCape

Hey @stewii, nice to see you! Check your pm and drop me a note. Thanks -J

do the ESCapes use the same CAN bus cable as v4 VESC’s, using only the 2 inside leads?

looks nice.

Yes. 10 chars

I couldn’t properly setup sensored TorqueBoards 6355 with Escape. Wire configuration is as stated on their site, don’t know the reason. Has anyone had such a problem? Unsensored FOC is pretty good though, except for no standing start.

Not sure is the pin out printed on the Maybe like APS motors you have to switch the leads heres how products/vesc-sensor-wires?variant=712409808919

Wire configuration: Red = 5v White = Temp Blue = A Yellow = C Green = B Black = GND

Pin names are also printed on escape. I’ve seen this converter but it was too late so I just remade it by hand with new JST 2.0 connector, just like you’re suggesting. I even tried to switch ACB cables thinking it would finally catch on. No success. I’ve read somewhere that some hall sensors’ signal levels are lower than others and that might be the case here but I’d like someone to confirm.

maybe try this to see if it’s a hall problem

We are All waiting on the dual housing. I think @LukePL will tell when they are ready. Hopefully this week

Yeah guys I feel the pressure and I’m bombarding guys from anodizing every day…

Are there any do/don’t do with the vesc6? I’ve heard many said they killed 4.12 vescs with user error in the settings. Kinda want to avoid doing that

Maybe @stewii has some inputs on how to not produce magic smoke? :joy:

Can someone scale down the pads a little bit on the Stencil File so when etching the stencils the holes arent etched too large in size!?.

I tried with 3 EDA Programs and I couldn’t get it scaled down to lets say 90% or 95% regarding the PAD size.

Thank you very much in advance.

As far as I know VESCs 4.12 blew mainly because of exceeded erpm limit which was around 60000, now it’s 150000 if I recall correctly. Benjamin tried to fry this thing really hard on his youtube videos with no luck. I, myself got them up to 50A on 10S while I was pushing my friend on a bike up pretty steep hill for a minute or so with no sweat. Temperature didn’t even rise above 50°C (122°F). Just connect them and ride I guess.

The reasons I see often:

  • motor phase wires disconnected or touched
  • short somewhere, maybe leads penetrated the silicone wires
  • that particular vesc was not well built
  • canbus for duals
  • bad/intermittent connections
  • random mystery (lots of these)
  • motor blown

I don’t think there are that many erpm based failures.

Canbus with dual? I thought that was the preferred way?

A sum of members prefer spilt PPM as opposed to canbus because with canbus you lose 2 ESC’s while POM you only lose one.

I would use Canbus with Focboxes and Solit PPM with -$100 ESC, but that’s just me
