Noob question thread! 😀 ask your questions here!

Its kind of both. You’re psu needs to provide enough watts (VxAmps) to power the rate you are charging (batteryV x charging amps) plus the power losses. If you don’t have a big enough psu you can try what you have and if the imax triggers the low voltage alarm, reset and set again to charge at lower amps. What are the specs of your psu and batteries you want to charge??

Does the number of teeth on a belt have to match the number of teeth on the wheel pulley? How is speed and torque affected if the no. of teeth on belt is higher than teeth on wheel pulley?

only the belt type have to match your pulleys - HTD 5 for example. Use a calculator like this to see how different gear ratios affecting your speed (less speed, more torque): http://calc.esk8.it/

Ah, okay much thanks for the info and the link.

Can you run your LED’s from the BMS? or is there another option for power spliting

I have a thunder ac6 lipo charger and would like to charge my enertion space cell. How could I use this to put 42v at 2a ? What settings should put it on? Obviously I don’t need to balance charge because it has an onboard BMS. But lipo charging only goes up to 6s. Thoughts?

You can’t charge a 10s pack with a charger that only charged up to 6s. Unless you want to cut the pack in half

Hello noob question im building a 10s3p from 30Q batterys 3.6V nominal. so im looking for a 36V charger but what i dont understand is why dose the charger charge all the way up to the max 42V then back down to 36? or is my understanding of chargers wrong? would something like this be ok.dont really know what charger to get. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Electric-Bike-36V-2-5A-Lithium-Li-ion-Battery-Charger-Lipo-DC42V-Scooter-Ebike/272887235773?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=572056717025&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

nominal voltage is 3.7v per cell, so nominal voltage on a 10s pack would be ~37v. A full charge is going to sit ~ 42v. (4.2v per cell). That is why you see chargers that go up to 42. (its the bring the battery to 100%)

Hopefully this picture helps illustrate what I am trying to say.

Does anyone know if this would be a good replacement for the enertion space cell BMS? or if they know of a good replacement.

The bestech D190 is good if you are using it in bypass mode. If you are using it in discharge mode it may not work

so correct me if im wrong but in bypass mode it would be only used for charging the cells but not regulating discharge into the vesc’s right?

yes, exactly

Hey guys, my hub motors are finally arrived, but the hallsensor cables are not going to a connector. Which connector type should i used or btw i have to order? I am using the china esc (https://www.banggood.com/Electric-Skateboard-Longboard-Controller-With-Remote-Dual-Motors-ESC-Substitute-p-1202299.html?rmmds=myorder) it seems to be, that they are identical with the lipo balance plugs. (Male JST XH 5PIN 152mm) i’am on the right track?

thanks for helping

Hey! I just build an electric longboard! Every thing works as it should but there is one problem. When i stand on it, the motor turns but makes a lot of noise, like its spinning over some gears inside the motor itself. I think the motor is to weak… But thats weird cause most people online suggest this motor, the turnigy sk3. Can someone explain why its doing that or what im doing wrong? Thanks!

Has anyone put a solar panel on their board? If yes: How big were you able to get it? What was the max output? How long did it take to charge your board alone? What is your battery configuration? Was it worth it? And where did you get the solar panel?

Also, I am planning on building a board with dual hub motors and 90mm wheels. Any recommendations for motors and where to get them? I want to be able to go at least 20 mph and be able to do minor hills. Btw, I am very light, I’m 150 lb. I found some on but I want to see my other options.

This would be my dream board: http://esk8-dresden.de/poe/v0.2/?tree=18650,Deck,Wood,Flex,Handle,Solar,Trucks,Hardware,ESC,VESC,4.12,VESC-X,FOC,Control,Remote,Finger,Battery,Enclosure,LCD,USB,BMS,Impedance,Li-ion,1S1P,4S,5S,6S,7S,8S,10S,12S,2P,3P,Single,Dual,Outrunner,Hubs,Wheels,2W,70mm,75mm,80mm,83mm,90mm,Clones,Lights,Splash,Water,&name=MyBoard&rider=68&cellweight=45&cellcapacity=3500&kv=75&power=500

Solar panels don’t generate a lot of power. Here’s an example:

The panels outputs 20W. If you want to charge a 12S 8Ah battery, it’ll take 4V * 12 * 8Ah / 20W = 19.2 hours assuming 100% efficiency and 100% sunlight.

They’re also very fragile.
