First Build: / diy sensored duel 63mm inline directdrive / 90 mm wheels / vesc / porn /

Yeah i can upload the CAD drawings for you. But if you want to make something similar it is better to try and error by yourself in my opinion.

No, I gave up trying t build my own hub. It is so hard and maybe more expensive than buying oneā€¦ But I think would be cool a tutorial because we donā€™t have any on youtubeā€¦

I have only made a hub to mount the wheels on the motor. I didnā€™t made the motors. So i donā€™t think i am the right person to make tutorials  you have to ask someone who has made more than just one prototype.

Yeah, I know, But I donā€™t understand this part

Do you use Four of this things Two per motor?

After some riding time i think its know the time to show some results. the last few weeks i used my board almost every day riding 10 km in Groningen. Yesterday i made a trip of 15,6 km. I started with 50,3 volt in the battery and after the trip the voltage was 44 volt. After another 7 km the battery was at 38 volt and had to conventionally skate to home. https://www.runtastic.com/nl/gebruikers/8e3560f3-d1df-db32-7ca6-6f48793ff353/sportsessies/5967928adc3377d6e1eed0b0?sharing_token=5967928bf454ba9ceae91bf8 The outer rings of the motorā€™s are getting some serious punishment from stones etc.

Huh, do you leave the stator coils open to the air on the inside of the motors now?

damn thats what it looks like. props though, no overheating and no damage yet!

Yup, i still have to make a 3 d printed cap including hall sensors. all the dust and moist that can come in which will always do, can come out easily this way. Every time the motors are a little bit dirty i blow them out with compressed air. However some small stones or debris could possibly destroy the magnets i guess. So i have to be a little bit careful on gravel paths :stuck_out_tongue:

Neat, yeah the only problem Iā€™ve had with open brushless motors is the bearings can get messed up if dirt or water gets in them, but Iā€™ll guessing you havenā€™t had any issues with that?

Little question. Did you ever been pulled over by the police in Groningen? Iā€™m building my own esk8 and my biggest fear is to be pulled over and loosing my board and getting a fine. Maybe we will see each other in Groningen.

The bearings I use are 2 rs sealed so that is no issue indeed.

No i have never been pulled over. The most people doesnā€™t even notice that I am on a esk8. Only when I am accelerating up a small hill they realize there is something special underneath my board. when I have to pas a police I just slow down and normal skate till i am out of sight. Because of the hub motors it rolls almost just like a normal non electric board.

Iā€™m building a belt drive so thatā€™s a lot louder and more noticeable. Slowing down and skating normal is the best thing to do I think. Just curious, do you know any more people in Groningen that have an esk8?

yeah but I dont think that will be a problem. I know some people who use their esk8 on daily base and they have never been pulled over so far. ray blokker uses its board almost everyday to come to the Zernike campus. and @Frank is building a planetary drive. There are two more more people in my class who are building a board but they arenā€™t finished yet.

Nice work, only found your thread now. Did you manage to print some sort of covers / fins for the motors? I suspect little rocks inside might mess up something upā€¦ I do remember it was pain to remove metal shavings from the inside and they did block the movement of motor.

Thank you! No I am still riding it without the covers. I am in the UK for an internship right now and the British roads are really demolishing my board:sob: The enclosure begins to tear apart and there are some serious dents in the aluminium ring on the outside of the motor. So I am now planning to upgrade my board with some pneumatic tires and belt drives. Or maybe even some big ass hub motors. Riding in London was quite scary in the beginning but after some time I really had a great time. I met a guy in Hyde park on a boosted board, we switched boards and had a great ride together!

great build mate, iā€™m starting building my esk8board aswell, i live in the uk atm and yeah roads are really bad, my xiaomi scooter that i use for comuting already had some soldering parts in the battery area completly broken, by now iā€™m using some 97mm but eventually i think we all need some mtb wheels, thereā€™s no way our boards will survive such demanding roads :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey zeinstra, I am still impressed and do really like the idea you built your drive. ItĀ“s similar to the carvon v4. IĀ“d like to copy your design and wonder if you are ready to share your 2D drawings for the hub incl. the dimensions. As it is a clone ti will fit the ABEC flywheel I guess. How did you measure the dimensions from the hub? tnx in advance //s.

Thanks! Of course no problem. I have never measured an abec wheel so I canā€™t say if it would fit. You can download the 3D part on the following link: http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/parts/download-Part.aspx?id=703495&catalogid=171

tnx a lot Eldert, this helps me a lot as I canĀ“t convert a 3D file to 2D.The drawing does not show the measurement of the 6 tooth gearing, means the data of the outer diameter , the diameter of the 6 holes circle and the length width of the teeth, so to speak the insert measurement. Again, thanks in anticipaition for your replyā€¦
